Opinion: Proposition 32 will raise prices on everything – so vote no
“We are invested in our workers and in serving our community, but we cannot do that if higher costs squeeze us out.”
“I know San Diegans are feeling what we’re feeling. Our utility bills continue to shock us, grocery store trips are more expensive, rent is eating up more of our budget, gas is going up, and it’s making folks spend less and eat out less.”
“Proposition 32 will force businesses to increase their prices even more to offset the higher labor costs; that’s just the reality. If Proposition 32 passes, it will only end up hurting the working families it is intended to help.”
Thousands attend SF's Oktoberfest on Front, 1st entertainment zone in CA
“It's a victory for bars and restaurants in San Francisco. The first entertainment zone event in California took place in San Francisco's Front Street on Friday. Before SB 76 took effect this year, people had to consume alcoholic beverages in the bar or restaurant where they bought them. This bill makes it possible for people to carry those drinks onto the sidewalk or in the street of a designated entertainment zone. ‘This new law [SB 969] that we passed gives cities the ability to decide whether they establish one of these entrainment zones and thus allow local bars and restaurants to participate,’ said Senator Scott Wiener.”
*SB 969 was just signed by Governor Newsom to allow jurisdictions throughout California to establish “entertainment zones” where local restaurants can sell alcohol.

Delivery apps don't have to share data with NYC restaurants, judge rules
“Delivery apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub won’t have to share detailed customer data with restaurants in New York City, a federal judge said on Tuesday. Judge Analisa Torres ruled that a law requiring delivery services to hand over things like customers’ full names, email addresses, phone numbers and addresses violates the companies’ First Amendment rights.”
“It marks a victory for delivery apps and a blow to restaurants, which have long wanted more information on their delivery-app customers. As of now, they receive only a customer’s first name, last initial and what they ordered.”
Cutting food waste would lower emissions, but so far only one state has done it
“The difficulty of cutting food waste has spoiled several states’ attempts to ban it, and only one — Massachusetts — has actually succeeded, according to a study this month in the journal Science. Massachusetts did it by building one of the most extensive composting networks in the country, inspecting more often, keeping the rules simple and levying heavy fines on businesses that don’t comply, the study found.”
