Los Angeles County sues Grubhub over ‘bait and switch’ fees
Los Angeles County sued Grubhub over business practices it deems deceptive. Specifically, LA County cited Grubhub’s alleged practice of misrepresenting delivery fees; ordering search results based on a merchant’s marketing spend without disclosure; and granting refunds to consumers without notifying restaurants, even when restaurants are not responsible for problems with the order.

Teen restaurant competition makes waves in Long Beach!
Hundreds of teens competed in the state’s largest high school culinary and restaurant competition – the CA ProStart Cup presented by Wienerschnitzel! Bonita High School from La Verne took home the top trophy in the BJ’s Restaurants Culinary Cup for their 3-course meal of Raviolo Doppio, Pan-Seared Elk Tenderloin, and a layered Mascarpone Mousse. Orange County School of the Arts took home the trophy in the BJ’s Restaurants Management Cup for best restaurant pitch for their concept “Teddy’s”, serving all day breakfast! Both teams are headed to the National ProStart Student Invitational in Baltimore with help from The Habit Burger Grill. Other highlights include a College + Career Expo and the launch of the ProStart Executive Mentor Program. On the March 5 ballot, Proposition 1, also known as “Treatment, Not Tents”, will refocus billions of dollars in existing state funds to better prioritize those with the most severe mental health needs, living in encampments, or struggling with substance abuse. CRA members have been organizing locally to help drive solutions in their communities, and Proposition 1 is a comprehensive, statewide approach that is critical to addressing these challenges.

The CRA has been involved in environmental policy at both the state and local levels for many years working to reduce environmental footprints, while being sensitive to operator challenges. The legislature and the Governor agreed with this comprehensive review effort, as it is more effective and coordinated than the long-standing practice of individual legislators introducing individual bills to ban products somewhat arbitrarily. However, SB 1176 is now looking to bypass all the progress made and ignore that very review process.
